Join renowned ceramic artist Laurel Lukaszewski in this hands-on workshop where Laurel will demonstrate how to create wall mounted small sculpture and relief tiles. Starting with a slab and keyhole, participants will have the freedom to explore texture, pattern and figurative hand building to create a wall-mounted artwork. The workshop will  start with a demonstration of the techniques Laurel uses for her wall mounted work and she provide a few examples of her work —from abstract to figurative. Day one will focus on working with wet clay to create a hand-built, wall-mountable piece. Day two will focus on finishing the piece with surface decoration using slip-trailing, underglaze, wax resist and/or sgraffito.

Students should purchase English porcelain (Standard 365) https://www.visartscenter.org/product/standard-365-english-porcelain-clay/ to use in this class. VisArts will provide slip and underglazes for use in the workshop. Lunch will be eaten in the studios so bring provisions or purchase a meal from a restaurant in the Square.
