This workshop is an introduction to the concepts and techniques of sculpting the human form in clay in an efficient and expressive manner. Participants develop the basic skills of clay modeling and figure assemblage, working on a single pose from beginning to end. Students work from a live model in order to perfect their understanding of proportion, symmetry, and form.

Through the study of the structure of the human body, this workshop enables participants to capture the essence of the human figure and provide the confidence to express themselves within the figurative tradition. Students develop the skills of seeing, perceiving, and reproducing the human form in all its complexities. This class is great not only for sculptors but also for those experienced in drawing, painting, and 3D animation. Beginning sculptors are very welcome as are more experienced sculptors who want to have a deeper understanding of figurative art. The instructor provides individual attention within the context of a supportive class environment.

Students are encouraged to work in low fire red clay, which may be bought online begining in the middle of August, or other clay may be used, if preferred.

There is a one-hour lunch break each day.
