KIDS CREATE! SPRING BREAK CAMP (ages 6-12, split by age group)

Kids Create! Spring Break Art Camp
March 29th-April 2, 2010
8:30am-3:00pm

Students ages 6-12 spend their Spring Break week at VisArts exploring their creative spirit with a full day of Kids Create! Art Camp. Each day campers explore new and exciting art projects. Kids bring a bag lunch and enjoy different recess activities each day. On the last day of camp, kids host their own art exhibition for their parents. This camp sells out, so register early!

Extended Camp Spring Break 2010

Does your child want more creative time? Register for extended Spring Break Camp at VisArts and students will receive an additional two and a half hours of artistic experiences and guided creative time!

ART IN HAND General Information

The ART IN HAND program is designed exclusively for toddlers and preschoolers, by an experienced art therapist, to meet their unique developmental needs. The ART IN HAND program’s distinctive approach will stimulate the senses, spark the imagination, and support emerging language, social, and problem-solving skills. Most of all, ART IN HAND classes provide an opportunity for little ones and their parent/caregiver to be creative, have fun, and make the mess away from home! We use only high quality art materials designed for use by young children plus lots of appealing found objects and materials. ALL MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED in tuition. ART IN HAND: Winter Tots

In the winter session, participants will enjoy stories and art-making reflecting a range of tot-friendly topics, including the many beautiful and art-inspiring wintery wonders in the natural world around us. Students use artistic expression to tell the story of themselves! Personal collages, self portraits, and much more are all part of the adventure. Painting, drawing and mixed media sculpture are used in this self-esteem building course.

Paint box Discovery

Find out what’s in the paint box! Drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture are all included in this creative class. Discover a variety of fun and unique projects which encourage imagination and individual expression. Kids explore a variety of art concepts, art vocabulary and different art mediums and discover what creative outlets they enjoy the most.

Kids n’ Clay

Children dive into the ’mud’ and create fantastic animals, vessels, name plaques and much more!  Kids learn hand-building techniques such as pinching and coiling as well as sculpture and surface decoration.  Come ready to have fun and get messy!  All materials and firing fees included.

Discover Digital Arts

From hand-drawn artwork to student-taken photos and designs, kids explore digital imagery and learn to use technology as a tool for artistic creation. Students design their own logo, produce a series of images that tell a story, and embark on many other fun projects.

Dare to Draw

Charcoal, pastels, ink, markers and pencils…  Kids try them all while learning real drawing concepts at an age appropriate level.  Lessons in line, shadow, contour, and value take drawings from good to great!

Critters, Creatures & Characters

This is not just a drawing class! Crazy critters and characters real and imagined take on a life of their own through sculpture, printmaking, and painting and drawing combined with mixed media. Traditional cartooning concepts are the building blocks for this action packed class!

Hooked on Painting

Children will use the art elements of line, texture, shape, color and value as building blocks for their paintings.  They will explore brushstroke options, mixing colors, tonal values, and composition with an emphasis on personal expression. Paintings will be done with different kinds of paints as tempera, watercolor and brush and ink.  Motivational materials will be taken from relevant famous artists and their unique painting styles. Try this class and discover the magical world of paint.

Art of the Letter

In this age of instant messaging, and texts, will your kids miss out on the fun and rewards of traditional correspondence?  The impact or magnitude of a letter can be felt for a lifetime! Focus on incorporating words and imagery together to form different types of correspondence: the thank-you note, a note to a friend or letters of inquiry. Techniques and materials would also be stressed. If they wish, students can share responses from the recipients of these letters.

In this exciting sampler class, students are exposed to three types of digital art: digital drawing, music-making, and animation. In the last three classes, students choose their favorite of the three and create a small project in that medium. Returning students may create in their preferred medium throughout the session.

Mosaic Workshop

Have fun with colorful glass and other mixed media! Experience piecing glass mosaic to make a mirror, frame, box or wall art. Learn to prepare glass and arrange a pleasing design, glue and grout your final piece. Work with mixed media materials such as pastels, fresco and fanciful wire and fabric figure sculpture.

This class is the first step needed to design original digital games. Learn about interactive game-making through interfaces like GameMaker, and gain experience working with graphics and code. Create an interface, make characters that move, and practice storyboarding all in one class.
