Our volunteers are an essential part of VisArts' success. By volunteering your time, you can help us provide our community and Montgomery County with the best in exhibitions, art education, workshops. Our volunteers participate in all the fun; meet new friends along the way and keep the arts a vibrant part of our community.

VisArts has developed a volunteer program with the purpose of utilizing the skills that you bring to our door. We invite you to choose an area in which you would like to share your expertise. We welcome volunteers from ages 15 on with a variety of opportunities for those who are just one timers to those who are looking for a regular schedule. Whether you are looking year round, during the school year or just the summer, we have something for you. We do provide Student Service Learning Credit for students seeking it. We extend our deep gratitude to you, as you are part of an important component within the Metropolitan Center for the Visual Arts.

At VisArts you may volunteer in the following areas:

• SERVING ON COMMITTEES OR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
  
  
• LIGHT OFFICE PROJECTS
  Answering phones, data entry, or special mailings.
  
  
• MEMBERSHIP
  Volunteers will be trained to contact fellow members to update records and obtain feedback.
  
  
• SPECIAL EVENTS
  Adults and Teens are invited to assist with gallery openings, fundraising events, and/or community events either during the preparations or with various activities throughout the events. Teens must be at least 15 years old, and are eligible to receive Student Service Learning Credit.
  
  
• ARTS CAMP and CLASSES (Teens)
  Receive Student Service Learning Credit as a group leader or a teacher’s assistant (must be at least 15 years old) in our Camp Programs serving kids ages 5 through 13. In our Education Program, we welcome volunteers at least 15 years old to volunteer as a teacher’s assistant in many of our classes.
  
  
• GALLERY
  We are growing by leaps and bounds as we prepare to move to our new home in Rockville Town Center next year, and we are working to build the core of our Volunteer/Docent/Intern Program. Our new Center will host three galleries and extensive exhibition space; a lot of assistance will be required to maintain, develop, and care for our galleries, exhibition programming, and the Center itself. This is an exciting time for VisArts, the City of Rockville, and Montgomery County as a whole as we endeavor to make a permanent home for the arts right here in our own back yard.

Teen Volunteers

• Teens must be 15 years of age to participate.
• Community Service credits received for hours contributed.
• Students must fill out an application and make an appointment for an interview.
• Students are strongly encouraged to make their own inquiries and appointments with VisArts.
• Summer Camp positions require a minimum two week commitment.
• Applications are available the first week of January each year.
• VisArts offers varied volunteer positions throughout the year for special events, gallery, and light office work.
