Docent Program
VisArts Docents assist the Exhibition Department by giving tours to guests, and volunteering as gallery educators, creating and assisting with exhibition related programs. VisArts Docents are considered VisArts Ambassadors.
Ambassadors are all ages, and consist of volunteers, interns, and docents.
Ambassadors represent VisArts and share art with the community. Whether guiding a group program, or behind-the-scenes as a planner for an exhibition, you can make a positive difference while being part of a team.
Ambassadors lend a creative hand, from assisting with exhibition installation to researching new ideas. It is an opportunity to stimulate your creative side.
Ambassadors learn by doing. Being a part of the VisArts team, you gain insights into how an art center operates, while working with staff, artists, and outside experts.
Volunteering as an Ambassador may include but is not limited to:
Exhibition Department
Assisting with office work (may include some interaction with visitors)
Docent / gallery educator (guiding tour and activities)
Assisting with gallery events (includes gallery openings and family days)
Gallery monitor and visitor services (includes monitoring the gallery and greeting gallery guest)
Conducting research (may include some interaction with visitors)
Other Departments needs:
Special events and non-exhibition Programming
Community Outreach
VisArts TOO! Shop
“Open Studio” monitors for people with experience in photography, digital arts, and ceramics
Children’s Birthday Parties and Summer Camp counselors (youth volunteers)
